How to Unstack in Procreate?

If you are a regular user of Procreate then you may have lots of artworks in your gallery which may create a cluttered look if you do not organize them. 

Stack is a type of a folder that you can create in Procreate, to organize your workspace. You can create multiple Stacks and organize the related projects in one stack. With the help of these stacks, you can find out your particular project within a few taps.

However, at times, one may as well need to unstack their projects, for the following reasons-

  • You have placed your file/project in the wrong stack mistakenly.
  • Accidentally put your file in a stack or made a new stack accidentally.
  • You want to remove the unrelated files or projects from the stack and reorganize your files and projects.

Unstacking in Procreate

To unstack files, while using Procreate for Windows, follow these steps-

  • Open the Procreate app on your iPad.
  • Now open the particular stack pile from which you want to unstack or extract your files to a gallery or another stack pile.
  • After choosing the stack there are different ways to unstack it.   

Unstacking single artwork-

To unstack a file or art from a stack, tap and hold on the particular file with your finger or Pencil and drag to the “Stack with back arrow” button present at the top left corner of your screen and it will take you to the main gallery where you can place your file.

Unstacking multiple files –

There are two different methods to do so-

1. Method – 1

First, tap and hold on a particular file with your finger or Pencil in the Stack folder, then without lifting your Pencil or finger, select the other files with your other hand and after selecting all the files that you want to unstack, drag them to the “Stack” button (top left corner) and this will take you to your main gallery where you can place your file as per your wish (Shown in GIF below).

2. Method – 2

In this method, after selecting your Stack folder, click on the “Select” button present at the top right corner of the screen. The app will now allow you to select multiple artworks or files with the help of a circle present at the lower left corner of each file; you just need to check the circle on the files that you want to unstack. 

After checking your desired files, tap and hold on any checked file with your finger or Pencil- a bundle of checked files will be created and then while holding it click on the “Stack” button present at the top left corner of the screen or drag the bundle to “Stack” (Shown in GIF below). 

  • Now the unstack process has been completed.

Will unstacking delete my files from Procreate?

No, unstacking any stack in the Procreate will not delete your files or projects from the app, it will only ungroup your files from the particular folder or stack. 

How to Stack in Procreate?

To create a stack in Procreate, follow the given steps. 

  • Open the Procreate app on your iPad. 
  • When you open the Procreate app, you may see a gallery on your screen where you can see all your files. There are multiple ways to create a stack in Procreate.

Method – 1

Tap and hold on a file or project that you want to add into the stack and drag it to the other project/file that you want to contain in your stack and release it when your file turns blue and after that your stack will be created. You can follow the same process to add new files in existing stacks.

Method – 2

In the gallery, first tap on the “Select” button present at the top right corner of your screen and after that, select your desired files/artworks or existing stack by checking them then click on the “Stack” button present at the top right corner of the screen.

How to rename a stack in Procreate? 

To rename any stack in Procreate, click on the name space on a stack which is by default labeled as “Stack” then a keyboard will popup on your screen, type the name you want to give your stack and click on the “Done” button in the keyboard.
