How to Add Brushes to Procreate?

Procreate is one of the popular digital art making apps used by millions of iPad and iPhone users across the globe. Loaded with tons of features, Procreate offers an extensive Brush Library which contains multiple brush sets and brushes for different purposes such as sketching, painting, inking, texturing, etc.

However, as you explore Procreate further, you may feel the need for having more brushes- great part, Procreate allows users to add new Brushes to the Brush Library. So, whether you are looking for unique effects, increasing work efficiency, or to solve a particular design purpose- these brushes can be helpful. Adding Brushes to Procreate

You can add brushes to Procreate for PC and iPad with three different methods.

NOTE- If your brush file is in the zip format, unzip it, and extract the actual brush file, which should be in one of these Procreate supported formats- .abr, .brush, or .brusheet.

Method 1: Importing Brushes

To import brushes to Procreate, follow these steps:

  • Download your brushes or brush sets in your iPad from your source (websites, apps, from a friend or colleague, etc.). You can buy brushes for different purposes from platforms such as Evanto, Gumroad, etc. 
  • Now open a canvas in your Procreate app. 
  • Click on the “Brush” icon present at the top right corner of the screen, to open the Brush Library. 
  • After that click on the “Plus” icon at the top right corner of the Brush Library.
  • Now click on the “Import” button present at the top right corner.
  • Locate the file on your iPad, select it, and make sure it is in the supported format- “.abr” or “.brush” or “.brushset.”
  • The importing will start.
  • Once importing is done, the brush set will be added successfully and you will be able to see it at the top left corner in the Brush Library. If you add a single brush, it will appear in the “Imported” folder at the bottom of the Brush Library.

Method – 2 : Drag and Drop

You can add a single brush or brush-sets directly by dragging the brush file from the File app to Procreate, by using iPad’s split screen feature-

  • Open Procreate app. 
  • And now open your File app in a split screen view and locate the brush file in it.
  • After that, drag your brush file into the Procreate app and it will be available in your Brush Library. 

Method – 3 

With this method, you can directly open your brush files in Procreate. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the brush file on your iPad.
  • If you have installed Procreate on your iPad, the brush file will automatically open and be imported to your Procreate brush library.
